Then you experience the breathtaking beauty of one of Austria’s most beautiful regions – the Lake District just beyond the gates of Salzburg. Your tour will commence from Mirabell Square and take you through Mozarteum, the new part of the City, then continue to Mozart’s Residence. Continue over the Staatsbrucke into the baroque Old Town with its resplendent Dome and the festival quarter. Passing the Nonnberg Abbey you will see Castle Leopoldskron, used as the von Trapp family home in the film, “Sound of Music”. The tour will then return to Mirabell Square where the lake and mountains tour will commence with a scenic view of Salzburg. Bavarian Mountains and Salt Mines On leaving Salzburg the journey takes us along the King’s Lake river to the picturesque Alpenstrasse. Journey through spectacular scenery along the Konigsee River Valley and the Bavarian Alps, before arriving at Obersalzberg. A special kind of adventure awaits you on this excursion to Bavaria – Berchtesgaden. Once you pass the hunting castle, Hellbrunn, you will cross the Austrian-Bavarian border. Continue through the fairytale scenery, along the Konigsee River Valley, through the Bavarian mountains spotted with romantic farmhouses. Once the tour reaches Obersalzberg the mountain housing, the elevator will take you to Eagle’s Nest, so that the highlight of your journey begins. You will be transported to Eagle’s Nest by both elevator and bus. The adventurous bus ride along the steep rock walls and deep gorges takes about 20 minutes and provides breathtaking views across the Alps. The buses are equipped with special engines and brakes to enable them to safely transport you through such treacherous terrain. During the journey you will have a splendid view up to the “Hoher Goll” and across the snowcapped peaks of the Bavarian Mountains. From the 365 foot (111 meter) elevator you will enter Eagle’s Nest at an altitude of 5,000 feet (1,524 meters), where you will be able to see the place where Hitler once lived and held meetings with the former Nazi party. Day 7 Day to Immerse yourself in a world of mountains and valleys, alpine lakes and meadows, waterfalls, gorges, caves and fascinating scenic reserves on a guided coach tour to Heidiland. Your full day tour includes a city tour of Zurich, Rapperswil’s Old Town, the Toggenberg region and Liechtenstein Principality.After first doing a city tour of Zurich we follow Lake Zurich to Rapperswil, the city of roses. We visit the picturesque Old Town and its medieval castle; you will also have some time at leisure here. Then after crossing the Ricken Pass with its panoramic views of the Alps we reach the lovely Toggenberg region whose pretty hill and valley scenery is perfect chocolate box material! In Vaduz, the capital of the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein you will have more time at leisure. And finally we arrive at Maienfeld, the setting for the Heidi stories. In the summer months we can visit Heidi’s village. Day 12 Zermatt – Interlaken After breakfast, travel to Interlaken by train (approx. 2 hrs 15 minutes). Experience crystal clear lakes, sparkling streams and fantastic falls, caressed by the sunbeams. The towering trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau stands sentinel over a world of eternal snow. After having checked in at your hotel, the rest of the day is free to explore Interlaken on your own. Overnight in Interlaken. Day 13 Interlaken – Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe After breakfast, you board the train to Kleine Scheidegg via Lauterbrunnen (approx. 1.5 hrs). The famous Jungfrau railway takes you to the highest station in Europe (approx. 1 hrs). A day of fun and excitement is awaiting you in the captivating snow peaks of Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe (3454 m/11333 ft). Visit the Ice Cave with its ice formations or else explore the snow on the glacier. You find a range of international restaurants on the Jungfraujoch. Return to Interlaken by train with an optional stopover in Grindelwald (approx. 2.5 hrs). Overnight in Interlaken. Day 14 Interlaken – Luzern (Lucerne) After breakfast, the morning is free to explore Interlaken on your own. Day 15 Luzern – Mount Titlis Today, travel by train to Engelberg (approx. 1 hrs), which is just an hour away. Spend some time in the snow with your snow disc. In the evening you return to Luzern (approx. 2 hrs). Overnight in Luzern. Day 16 Luzern – Geneva Today you are free to discover Luzern on your own. Visit the 700 years-old wooden Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument and the shopping malls. In the afternoon proceed to Geneva by train (approx. 3 hrs). Overnight in Geneva. Day 17 Geneva – Depart for the onward journey After breakfast, you either proceed to the airport for your onward flight or else continue your stay in Switzerland at your own request.
